We need to find something in common to all human beings all over the world that will pave the way toward lasting peace and well-being. The deep differences in religious beliefs and practices of large numbers of people are leading humanity to chaos and extinction. World history reminds us that institutions and ideologies also add more fuel to the crucial problems instead of alleviating the dismal situations. But there is still hope. Science which deals with realities and technologies if used for the common good are avenues which offer hope for all of us.
In physics, we learned that force always exist in pairs. We also learned that the pair of forces are opposing each other and they also exist in everything and everywhere in the world. In Chinese, they are the yin and the yang, the male and female characteristics of everything in the world. We then surmise that a human being is governed by that pair of forces which are the positive and the negative forces joined into one; that the pair of forces are made up of chemical elements which are in the state of balance when we were born into this world; that the pair of forces can be visible or invisible, mute or with sound; that life experiences and our character either can help maintain the balance of the two opposing forces or can destroy the balance of the pair of forces.
If we are able to maintain the balance of the pair of opposing forces in us, we are able to be/do good to others and to ourselves. We experience wholeness/having thoughts and feelings of the unity of the pair of forces in us, the chemical elements that composed us are balanced, our behavior and decisions are sound, we are able to control the pair of opposing forces within us that complement and help each other enabling them to stop/pause in doing its jobs when tired or when needed which results in the state of well-being, relax, whole and the thoughts and feelings of equanimity.
If we are not able to maintain the balance of the pair of opposing forces in us, whether due to our life experiences or due to our vulnerabilities or whatever reason/s, we develop a split personality; the chemical elements in us become imbalanced, the seat of emotions are disturb or agitated or mixed/confused, we become aggressive at times or withdrawn at other times; the inclination to harm others and also ourselves are activated; the decision-making is impaired and can reach to the point after a prolong amount of time in that condition when self-control is lost or we lose our free will. One instance is the behaviour of mothers who kill their own children. Another example is the behaviour of the character in the novel, "Dr. Jekyl and Mr. Hyde".
The constitution of a human being is such that it continually uses up its chemical nutrients and therefore there is a corresponding continuous need to replenish them by eating the proper amount of the needed nutrients, or by taking proper medications needed to maintain or achieve the state of balance and well-being, which results in the thoughts and feelings of equanimity.
Our faith teaches us that our first parents, Adam and Eve were given by God the permission to do everything that they wanted but they are also given restrictions. There is a limit to what we can do, because as human beings each one of us has inadequacy. We are not capable to do everything. We need other human beings to do what we cannot do. The recognition and the acceptance that we have limitations is also called humility. That virtue or characteristic is indispensable to develop in each of us. It's absence or opposite is arrogance, which is the greatest threat to the existence of humanity.
The pair of opposing forces exist not only within each of us but they also exist around all of us all the time. They can manifest themselves in various forms, visible or invisible, in words or in deeds, spoken or unspoken. They can exchange their positions--the positive can become negative at times and the negative can become positive at other times. They are always present whether we like it or not, and we cannot eradicate, suppress any of the pairs because their existence is in accordance with the law of nature. They can be invisible for some time but they are always there.
If we fail to know our nature, our constitution, we ignore/defy the law of nature intentionally or unintentionally and so we break ourselves as well as break the lives of others.
The pair of opposing forces within each of us and around all of us always need to be in the state of balance. They are opposing each other but they complement each other. They mutually need each others help to seek and find the truth about everything they need to know, to satisfy the need of the intellect and once they found the truth, choose what is good to do to satisfy the will to restore the balance in nature, the thoughts and the feelings of wholeness and well-being.
Tolerance or allowing the pair of opposing forces in nature to be visible and be heard whether by various levels of discussions, debate, meetings or conferences, etc. helps maintain the state of balance of the pair of opposing forces.
When any of the pair of opposing forces dominates the situation without allowing the corresponding pair to manifest its corresponding strength, the balance tip to one side, the pair of opposing forces become imbalance, the situation is against the law of nature and there is going to be dire consequences.
